Set up a grader laptop
Put Class-Navi+ on a center laptop and link it to your plan with a short code. Nobody types your password on the laptop, and you can switch it on, off, or sign it out from your own computer at any time.
Before you start
Linking is done by the center's billing owner, from their own copy of Class-Navi+.
- Your computer: Class-Navi+ installed and signed in as the billing owner. That is the account that pays for the center, or that started its free month.
- An active plan: a paid Class-Navi+ plan or the free first month. The Devices section only appears when the plan is active.
- The grader laptop: Google Chrome, and the Chrome profile staff will grade in. Each Chrome profile is linked on its own.
- Both online, and within reach: you will read a code off the laptop.
1. Install Class-Navi+ and get a code
Do this on the laptop staff will grade on.
-
Install the extension
Open the Class-Navi+ page on the Chrome Web Store, click Add to Chrome, then Add extension.
-
Pin it to the toolbar
Click the puzzle-piece icon at the top right of Chrome, find Class-Navi+, and click the pin so its icon stays visible.
-
Choose “Sign in with a code”
Click the Class-Navi+ icon. On the sign-in screen, click Sign in with a code. An 8-character code appears:
Leave this window open. The code works for 10 minutes; if it runs out, click Get a new code.
2. Type the code into your Devices
On your own computer, signed in as the billing owner.
-
Open Devices
Click the Class-Navi+ icon, then open Devices in your account view.
-
Type the code under “Add a laptop”
Type the 8 characters from the laptop. The dash is already there, so just type the letters and numbers. It links on its own when the last box is filled, or click Link.
Codes never use 0, O, 1, I or L, so there is nothing to mix up. Pasting the whole code works too.
-
Pick the center, if asked
If you own more than one center, choose the one this laptop is for under Which center is this laptop for? and click Link again.
3. The laptop signs itself in
-
Check the laptop
Within a few seconds the laptop shows This laptop is linked. Class-Navi+ is ready. Its popup now reads Linked to followed by your email.
-
Open Class-Navi or K-SIS
Refresh any Class-Navi or K-SIS tab that was already open. The Class-Navi+ pill appears in the bottom-right corner and the tools are ready:
That's it. Repeat steps 1 to 8 for each laptop. New laptops are named Laptop 1, Laptop 2 and so on; rename them in Devices so you can tell them apart.
Manage your laptops
Everything lives in Devices in your Class-Navi+ popup.
Turn a laptop on or off
Flip the switch next to a laptop. An open page on that laptop changes within about 15 seconds, no refresh needed.
A laptop you switch off shows nothing at all, not even the pill, until you switch it back on.
All laptops at once
The All laptops switch turns every linked laptop on or off together, for example at closing time.
Rename
Click Rename to call a laptop something useful, like “Front desk” or “Grading 2”.
Sign out and remove
Sign out removes a laptop from the list and signs it out. Sign out all does this for every laptop. Linking one again takes a new code.
For staff at the laptop
The pill in the corner
Disable Extension turns the Class-Navi+ tools off on this laptop only; Enable Extension brings them back. Other laptops are not affected.
What a linked laptop can do
Grade and use every Class-Navi+ tool for your center. It cannot change billing, link other laptops, or see your other centers.
Unlink this laptop
Click the Class-Navi+ icon and choose Unlink this laptop. The owner will need to link it again with a new code.
“Turned off by your center”
The owner switched this laptop off. Ask them to switch it back on in Devices. If the laptop is moving to another center, click Link it with a code.
Troubleshooting
I don't see Devices in my popup
Devices only shows for the center's billing owner while the plan is active (paid or in the free month). Check that you are signed in with the account that pays for the center. If the plan has lapsed, subscribe first.
“That code is not valid or has expired”
Each code works once, for 10 minutes. Check the characters against the laptop's screen, or click Get a new code on the laptop and type the new one.
“Too many wrong codes”
After too many wrong codes in an hour, linking pauses for a while. Wait up to an hour, then try again with a fresh code from the laptop.
“Choose which center this laptop belongs to”
You own more than one center, or you are working in a center you don't own. Pick the right center from the list that appears and click Link.
The laptop is linked but there is no pill
Refresh the Class-Navi or K-SIS tab. If it is still missing, check that the laptop is switched on in your Devices, and that Class-Navi+ is turned on at chrome://extensions.
A staff member uses a different Chrome profile
Each Chrome profile is its own laptop to Class-Navi+. Install and link Class-Navi+ in that profile too, following the same steps.
Still stuck?
In the popup, click Report a bug, or email support@centerflowapp.com with the laptop's name from Devices.
Class-Navi+ is not affiliated with Kumon Institute of Education or Kumon North America.
